Gleniffer Braes, Paisley

From Robertson Park walk on grassy path to Gleniffer Burn. Head downhill on road and path to a waterfall and then a short climb to Tannahill Walkway. Return on rough paths over open ground to the start.

Terrain: Paths, road and moorland muddy in places.

Distance: 10 km, duration 4 hrs, total ascent 180m to max. ht. 170m.

Start point: Robertson Park car park in Gleniffer Braes Country Park, Paisley.

It is emphasised that ‘A’ grade walks are strenuous and should only be attempted by those with high standards of fitness and stamina and who are also properly equipped and clothed for the conditions.

Leaders will quite properly turn away those who do not meet these standards as they could create difficulties or danger for other members of the group.

A

Stob a'Choire Odhair

Heading generally North-North East from Victoria Bridge on West Highland Way towards Ba Bridge. We leave the West Highland Way between two small plantations and head directly up the open, trackless, hillside on the North East ridge to the summit of Beinn Toaig before a short descent and final climb to the summit of Stob a' Choire Odhair. Return South from summit (alternatively West then South East) to join stalkers track alongside the Allt Toaig and Clashgour Hut back to Victoria Bridge.

Terrain:Initially West Highland Way footpath then open, trackless hillside. Rocky ascent. Return via stalkers path and good track.

Distance: 14½km, duration 7 hrs, total ascent 850m to max. ht 945m.

Start point: Victoria Bridge Car Park.

A Linear Walk from Troon to Irvine

Part of the Ayr Coastal Path to take in the Ballast Bank in Troon, several viewpoints and the regenerated harbour of Irvine.

Terrain: Sandy beaches, unsurfaced track, promenades and pavements.

Distance: 15 km, duration 4 hrs, total ascent N/A to max ht. N/A.

Start point: Helensburgh Central Railway Station for 9:26 train or the front of Troon Railway Station at 11:06 (all times to be confirmed). Cars may be left at Irvine station. The 10:59 from Irvine to Troon arrives at 11:06.

Stob nan Eighrach

From Beinglas, up the waterfall and on to the lower ridge of Cruach (514m). On to Stob nan Eighrach, then north to Beinn Ducteach and back.

Terrain: By the pylons. Open hill. No path after the waterfall.

Distance: 12 km, duration 7 hrs, total ascent 800m to max. ht. 613m.

Start point: Beinglas Campsite main car park.

Beinn an Lochain

The route will follow the North East ridge and return by the same route.

Terrain: Steep and narrow in places with sheer drops.

Distance: 6 km, duration 5 hrs, total ascent 730m to max. ht. 901m.

Start point: Lay-by on left hand side before bend at Butterbridge in Glen Kinglas.
